Description
Fuchsia 'South Gate' has gorgeous medium to large double flowers. The tube and sepals are medium pink, complemented by the soft powder pink of the corolla. This free-flowering fuchsia has an upright, trailing, bushy habit. Reaches approximately 20" (50 cm) tall.
Bred by Jones / Walker, USA in 1951, it is named after South Gate in Amercia, which is a place in the state of California, but falls under Los Angeles County.
- Plant out from late May all through the summer.
- Hardy once established.
- Suitable for potting on or, dependent on time of year, planting straight into the garden.
- Late autumn garden planting should be avoided as the plants will not have time to establish before the winter.
- If grown in containers and left outside all winter they may not prove fully hardy as container growing does not afford the same level of root protection as growing in the ground.
- In severe winters additional protection may be required for plants in the ground or left outside in containers. We suggest covering the plant with straw then inverting a large pot or bucket over it to provide further protection.
