Description
Fuchsia 'Celia Smedley' has very striking medium to large single flowers. The tube and sepals are a warm neyron rose colour, while the corolla is a vivid currant red. This fuchsia has an upright, self-branching habit and is extremely vigorous. Reaches approximately 30 - 39" (75 - 100 cm) tall.
Bred by Don Bellamy of Barney, Lincolnshire in 1970, named after the daughter of the introducer, George Roe who's married name was Celia Smedley and was given to her as a wedding gift by her Father. Only one of the parents of this variety is known, Pepi.
- Plant out from late May all through the summer.
- Hardy once established.
- Suitable for potting on or, dependent on time of year, planting straight into the garden.
- Late autumn garden planting should be avoided as the plants will not have time to establish before the winter.
- If grown in containers and left outside all winter they may not prove fully hardy as container growing does not afford the same level of root protection as growing in the ground.
- In severe winters additional protection may be required for plants in the ground or left outside in containers. We suggest covering the plant with straw then inverting a large pot or bucket over it to provide further protection.
