Description
Originates from the hills of Catalonia and is one of the varieties used to make Cava (along with Macabeo and Xarel-lo). The fruits have a lovely blossom aroma and a flavour of green apples and /or white nectarines.
Parellada has good acidity and likes to grow at high altitudes where the temperatures are fresher and cooler, with longer growing seasons in Catalonia.
Up until recently it was recommended this variety was only grown under protection in the UK. As our climate warms, this variety will now perform and ripen most years when grown outside in the more Southern Counties of the UK. For those further up the Country we would continue to recommend growing under protection (greenhouse, polytunnel or conservatory).
- White fruit.
- High-yielding.
- Likes poor soil and cooler climates with long seasons.
- Recommended for protected growing only in in more Northern parts of the UK.
- Origin of Catalonia.
- Self fertile.
- Fruits contain seeds.
