Description
These are hardy perennials of the original organic open pollinated strain seldom found these days. A really hardy true Victorian variety once removed from the cowslip.
Stems as thick as pencils - really tough, hardy and everlasting. Tawny crimson, gold, purple, red, white and bright yellow are the predominant colours and very nicely scented in spring too.
- Sow in seed trays that have been well soaked in water and allowed to drain.
- Sow seed thinly on the surface and do not cover as they need diffused light to germinate.
- Ideal germination temperature is 55-60°F (12-15.5°C).
- Germination temperatures higher than 65°F (18°C) or strong sunlight will spell failure.
- Approximately 14 days after sowing chitting will have occurred (ie you will see signs of germination); thinly cover with fine seed compost and allow to grow on in diffused light.
- Avoid strong sunlight as young seedlings.
- Transplant and grow on in pots when large enough to handle before planting out 12" (30 cm) apart.
