Description
For many, the most important attribute of a tomato is sweetness, but if you are making curries, and want to make particularly authentic curries, a 'sour' tomato is needed. All the way from India, this variety will give the 'sour' fruits needed!
The fruits aren't really that sour (and perfectly edible raw); it's more a case that they are sharper and give just that extra 'edge' of acidity which is hard to achieve from 'normal' tomatoes unless they are under-ripe (and so not fully flavoured). Dense and fleshy, the fruits are also very juicy.
Can be grown as a hanging basket variety or on a patio as well as in a greenhouse or polytunnel.
Introduced by Surender Katta, an Indian Gardener.
- This is a determinate variety and best grown as a bush.
- There is no need to side-shoot though thinning excessive growth to allow light and air in can prove beneficial.
- This variety performs well both outside and under protection.
