Description
This delicious heirloom, plum type tomato is very meaty with few seeds and is sweet and flavoursome, making it perfect for making sauces, pastes, salsa and soups, some people cook them as vegan hotdogs! A lovely bright red colour when ripe reaching 5 - 6" (12.5 - 15 cm) in length with a pointy end at the base of an elongated fruit. You will have to be patient for these tomatoes though as they can be slow to ripen (but well worth the wait), however they are therefore better grown in a greenhouse or polytunnel with the UK climate.
Apparently named after the Jersey Devil that lives in the pine barrens of New Jersey, this variety orginated in New Jersey, USA in 1986 and made popular by Tomato Seed Co of Metuchen, who are no longer operating.
- This is an indeterminate variety and best grown as a cordon (vine).
- For best yields stop at 5th truss.
