Description
For quality, quantity and scent of flower 'Old Spice' sweet peas really are hard to beat! Divide up the young plants and plant at the base of a pergola or arbour and they will soon clamber up to a height of around 8 feet (2.4 metres).
Throughout the summer they will be literally smothered with beautiful flowers in a range of colours from deep purples and red right through to pastels and whites - and all are gorgeously sweetly scented. Pick as often as you wish to fill your house with vases of these sweetly scented delicate flowers - in fact regular picking will encourage them to continue flowering!
Old Spice is not a large flower but the perfume is better than that of any modern sweet pea of that we assure you. Supplied in a mix of 'lost' varieties to include Lord Nelson, King Edward VII, Matucana, Prima Donna and The Eckfords.
Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
- Flower June - September.
- Grow to approximately 8 feet (2.4 metres) tall with suitable support.
- Thrive in full sun and a rich moist soil.
- Plant 6" - 9" (15 - 23 cm) apart.
- Pick flowers frequently (and before they set seed) to prolong flowering.
- Earlier blooms can be produced by growing under protection.
- Under no circumstances should the seed or seed pods (which look similar to edible garden peas) be eaten as they are poisonous.
