Description
Also known as Clarry, Orvale, Toute-bonne, Cleareye or Eye Bright. This variety of sage will usually flower in it's second year (and later die!) with a stunning purple/pink flower in Summer but has a highly scented oblong, hairy, wrinkled leaf.
A short lived herbaceous perennial or biennial which usually dies after it has flowered in it's second year; it requires a cold spell during the Winter in order to produce flower (so therefore doesn't like a warm climate all the time) so best grown outside.
Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
Clary Sage is native to the Mediterranean and is commonly found in Hungary, France and Russia and has been found to be deer resistant.
It is often used in aromatherapy and the essential oil is common called Clary oil or muscatel sage and is said to be an oil that can feed the soul and help us get through rough times.
