Description
Like most mints Grapefruit Mint is easy to grow. With its furry leaves, deep green with a hint of mulberry in colour, Grapefruit Mint looks good in the herb garden, especially when it flowers. The tall spikes of attractive purple flowers, which are edible, make excellent cut flowers. The intensely aromatic citrus-mint leaves work especially well in fruit desserts.
Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
- Hardy perennial.
- Likes full sun or partial shade.
- Reaches a height of 18" (45 cms).
- Can become leggy so pinch out shoots to maintain bushy growth.
- Can be invasive so grow in containers for best results (but not as invasive as some other varieties).
- Attractive to bees, butterflies and beneficial insects.
- Culinary Uses
- Add chopped leaves to fruit salads and fruity desserts.
- Goes well with fish and chicken dishes.
- Add leaves to iced tea.
- Freeze leaves in ice cubes to add to drinks.
