Description
A symbol of happiness for the Greeks and Romans.
Sweet, spicy, citrus-flavoured herb with grey-green foliage.
A member of the mint family.
Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
- Tender perennial.
- Grows up to 2 feet (60 cm) tall.
- Likes a warm sunny position (it doesn't like the cold!)
- Like free-draining soil.
- Suitable for container growing.
- Sow under glass in trays, or late spring directly outside (please note germination can be slow).
- Plant seedlings out 6" (15 cm) apart (please note they can be slow to grow).
- Flowers July - September with small pale pink flowers.
- If you cut plants to 1" (2.5 cm) in autumn they can be brought indoors.
- Culinary Uses.
- Good for use in stews, soup, on pizza, with pasta, eggs and cheese!
- Can be infused for tea.
- Can be chopped into salad.
- Good complement for fish.
