Description
An evergreen tree that produces green leaves with fragrant, white/pink flowers which form into hard, woody, round fruits, inside which is a creamy white nut.
These trees tend to be grown more for ornamental purposes (and to offer shade in hotter climates!) by the amateur where the height can be controlled, but in other parts of the world they are grown commerically for their nuts.
Also known as Bauple nut, Queensland nut or Nut oak.
Native to Queensland, Australia (and therefore requires Winter frost protection).
Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
- Evergreen.
- Reaches approximately 32 feet (10 metres) tall.
- Slow-growing.
- Requires winter frost protection.
- Requires a well-drained soil.
- Neutral to acidic soil type preferred.
- Likes a sunny position.
