Whilst the various health properties of herbal teas are widely recognised, we also firmly advocate the use of herbs to enhance other refreshing tipples - mint, lemon balm and chamomile to name but a few! Whether you prefer a soothing or invigorating cup of herbal tea, want to add some zest to your evening cocktail, or simply want to decorate your homemade drinks with a pretty herb flower – for instance, the exotic flowers of the borage plant, or even a simple sprig of mint! - then growing your own herbs for teas and drinks is definitely the way to go.
Growing herbs from herb plants is so easy – just make sure that you plant the plugs in as soon as you receive them in the post direct from our Kent nursery, and water regularly but don’t leave the soil waterlogged. Generally, herb plants are quick to establish, and as long as you have a suitably sunny position in well-drained soil, you should look forward to growing success!

Angelica Plant
A very versatile hardy, biennial herb that can be used in salads, eaten as a vegetable or crystallised for cake decorations. Also a striking architectural plant.

Chamomile Plant
Very soothing to both mind and body, chamomile has many medicinal benefits, including helping you sleep or relax. Easy to grow.

Epazote Plant
Annual. Often used in Mexican cooking particularly with black beans as it reduces the gas our bodies produce. A green leave and flower that is easy to grow in a warm position.

Fennel Plant - Bronze Fennel
A beautiful purple variety, which can be grown in ornamental borders, reaches 6 feet tall with golden, yellow flowers. Great accompaniment to fish dishes.

Anise hyssop is actually a member of the mint family, with very aromatic leaves, smelling pleasantly of anise, or licorice, and beautiful lavender blue flower spikes, loved by bees.

Herb plant. A short-lived perennial plant that requires winter frost protection. Sacred to the Hindu faith. Also used in Thai cooking but not to be confused with Thai or Sweet Basil.

Produces a medium to large cone. Used as an aroma and bittering hop. Good resistance to downy and powdery mildew. Bred at Wye College in 1972.
