Fuchsia Wall Hedging
Fuchsia magellanica var. gracilis 'Variegata'

Description
This can reliably grow up to 5 feet (1.5 metres) tall with remarkable speed, and from a May/June planting could be 3-4 feet (90-120 cm) tall by late summer.
The foliage is shimmering green and silver with tints of pink and crimson and in autumn takes on lovely crimson to deep red tints. The flowers are small to medium size of vivid scarlet crimson and purple.
Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
- Plant 18" (45 cm) apart.
- Ultimate height 5 feet (1.5 metres). Can be trimmed to any height above 2 feet (60 cm).
- Average annual growth rate 12-18" (30-45 cm).
- Ultimate width 3-4 feet (90-120 cm). Can be trimmed.
- Grows well in most soil types (including chalky and clay) except those prone to laying wet.
- Suitable for most aspects from full sun to partial shade. Does not perform well in dense shade.
- Suitable for coastal areas.
- Not suitable for particularly exposed areas but excellent in windy positions.
- We are not aware that this plant is poisonous.
- Small crimson and purple flowers in summer and autumn.
- Plant spring/summer.
- Under no circumstances should you use any stimulants, fertiliser or bonemeal at planting time as such products will damage any new root growth and actually slow your plant's development!
- Water thoroughly if the ground is dry.
- It is essential to keep your developing hedge free of weed competition.
- In extended dry periods ensure your plants are watered thoroughly at least once a week; this is even more critical on lighter soils.
- It is recommended that you mulch the plants before the onset of winter.
