Description
Fuchsia 'Rocket Fire' really lives up to its name. The large double flowers have a magenta tube while the sepals are a dark rose, and slightly lighter on the underside. The corolla is spectacular, with dark pink inner petals, and pleated outer petals coloured purple. A real firework. This fuchsia has a strong, upright, hanging habit making it suitable for hanging baskets. Some consider this variety to be hardy.
Bred by Ted Garrett, USA in 1989. It's parents are Kaleidoscope.
- Plant out from late May all through the summer.
- Hardy once established.
- Suitable for potting on or, dependent on time of year, planting straight into the garden.
- Late autumn garden planting should be avoided as the plants will not have time to establish before the winter.
- If grown in containers and left outside all winter they may not prove fully hardy as container growing does not afford the same level of root protection as growing in the ground.
- In severe winters additional protection may be required for plants in the ground or left outside in containers. We suggest covering the plant with straw then inverting a large pot or bucket over it to provide further protection.
