Description
Originating from Eastern Canada and America, this is a hybrid of the wild Confederate Violet.
Similar to the Sweet Violet, these grow as clumps of rich green, heart shaped foliage that carpet the ground. Come April the delicate flowers appear on short stems in the most gorgeous shade of burgundy wine.
- Hardy, perennial.
- Flowers April - May.
- Grow to approximately 6" (15 cm) high.
- Thrives in shade but will tolerate a full sun position.
- Likes a rich soil.
- Plant 10" (25 cm) apart.
- Will spread up to 18" (45 cm).
- Lovely and highly scented cut flower.
- Culinary Uses
- Wonderful for crystallising and using for cake decorations.
- Edible flowers.
- Medicinal Uses
- Used in by the Cherokee to treat coughs, sore throats and constipation.
