Chard Seeds
Chard grows into a pretty leaf that is delicious when eaten. The stems are a vibrant colour which contrasts with the green of the leaves. Not only is it easy to grow from seed, it can be grown in pots, in the ground, on your window sill, wherever you happen to have a little space!
The taste of chard is a lot like spinach but it tends to be sweeter (and more colourful!) The season is also usually slightly longer than that of spinach as it is quite hardy.
There are many 'best bits' about chard. Not only is it so quick to cook but it contains over 700 times the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin K and 200 times the Vitamin A (which is good both for the immune system and eye sight) so we really should eat just a little bit more of it!
Growing chard from seed in your garden or allotment means that you get to eat it as fresh as possible (as it does tend to wilt if it's not eaten fresh) so you get the maximum goodness from it. It is so easy to sow; just wait for the ground temperatures to warm up in the spring and direct sow it or you can start it early in a greenhouse, then just water and wait!
