Description
Chamomile has a relaxing aroma to it, which is used to aid sleeping and chamomile tea is used at beauty salons to relax facial muscles but can also bevery soothing to both mind and body. This variety is also known as Roman Chamomile.
The Egyptians dedicated chamomile to the sun and worshipped it about all the other herb for it's healing properties.
The Greeks used Chamomile to treat fevers and 'female disorders'.
Here is the opportunity to have pots of the actual growing chamomile in your home - on your bedside table. Keep in good light conditions by day, move closer to your bed at night. The subtle fragrance can bring relief to those with insomnia and the scent of chamomile is helpful to those with breathing difficulties too. It can also help children who suffer from restless sleep, nightmares, teething or over excited. We suggest you place the pot grown plants on an old saucer or plate to avoid drips from watering reaching nice things.
- Perennial.
- Likes a full sun position.
- Plant in well drained soil.
- Keep just moist, not soggy wet.
- Can reach 12" (30 cm).
- Can flower with white 'daisy' like flowers June to October.
- When it grows to about 4" (10 cm) high give it a 'hair cut' with a pair of sharp scissors.
- Use the 'clippings' to make an infusion of chamomile tea, either green or dried!
If you wish, in about 3 months you can divide your plants up and plant into more pots to make more plants!
Medicinal Uses
- Use as a hand soak to soften skin.
- Make into eye baths to reduce inflammation and fatigue shadows (or 'bags'!)
- Can be used to treat wounds and eczema.
- Can be used in a bath to relieve sun or wind burn and bites. It will also help you relax.
- Used as a facial steam and inhaled can ease colds, flus, throat infections and hayfever.
Culinary Uses
- Make into tea.
Other Uses
- Makes a strong yellow-brown dye.
- Can be used as a companion plant for failing plants and can help revive them!
- Use as a spray on seedlings to prevent damping off.
- Can be used as a hair conditioner.
- Use in pot pourri and herb pillows.
- Deters flies and aphids.
