Description
This really is a beautiful plant that produces large ivy like leaves with a most pungent scent when squeezed - a vague likeness to tangerine and sandalwood. The bright green leaves become overlaid with creamy-yellow, then splashed pinky-red which mature to lovely shades of crimson red. As if this were not pretty enough, this is then topped by pretty white flowers.
Spreading by stolons it is a most attractive for pond side planting and grows well in boggy soil - but also can be classed as completely drought tolerant!
Herbaceous in habit, come the first frosts the plant dies back to nothing - only to re-appear the following spring.
- Flower July to September.
- Grow to approximately 8" - 12" (20 - 30 cm) tall.
- Thrives in all aspects from full sun to shade.
- Happy to grow in dry or moist (to the point of being boggy) soils.
- For mass planting, plant 18" (45 cm) apart.
- In some soil types this plant may prove invasive.
