Autumn Fruiting Raspberries

Our autumn-fruiting raspberry canes produce jewel-like delicious-tasting autumn raspberries from August through to October/November (and sometimes even later). Our selection of autumn raspberries are categorised as 'primocane', meaning that they produce fruit on first year wood (in contrast with summer-fruiting 'floricane' plants that produce fruit on second year wood).

Autumn-fruiting raspberries are fantastic if you're keen to dive in and enjoy a truly productive plant in your first growing season!

Although there are a multitude of autumn-fruiting (primocane) varieties of raspberry currently available, we believe that the autumn raspberries available on our website represent the 'top pickings'. Excellent flavour is at the top of the list of favourable characteristics, along with the likes of reliable cropper and disease resistance. As such, you probably won't be surprised to also find that a number of our Autumn Fruiting Raspberries have been bestowed with the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, too.

Autumn raspberries generally produce a crop of tasty fruit from around mid-August through to as late as mid November, depending on the arrival of the first frosts. The heaviest cropping period depends on the variety, but as a general rule of thumb, expect your heaviest Autumn Raspberry yields around the beginning of September.

Autumn Fruiting Raspberry canes are actually relatively easy to grow and maintain, if you give the canes a good head start. As a general guide we recommend that your canes are planted in moist but free-draining soil that has been enriched with well-rotted manure, and are sited in a sunny position. Once the raspberry canes have been planted, we also recommend mulching with organic matter such as bark chippings or well-rotted manure (fresh manure will damage tender new roots) to help keep the soil well nourished and sustain good levels of moisture retention.

Our Autumn Raspberry canes are supplied as pruned bare root plants, supplied direct from our nursery in Kent. For more advice or recommendations on the best Autumn Raspberry varieties for your needs, feel free to call us or drop us an email and we'll be more than happy to assist.
