Aubergine Seeds
Aubergines or egg plants as they are also known, are a close relative of the tomato and potato family and is actually a perennial plant, but is often cultivated as an annual. Our aubergine seed selection includes both the dark purple-skinned and white-skinned varieties and are grown and hand packeted here in Kent.
Aubergine seeds need warm temperatures to germinate, and can be grown on in pots, containers or grow bags. Aubergine plants should only be planted out in open ground once the risk of frost has passed.
Aubergines are thought to have arrived in the UK in the sixteen century, but to have originated in India long before this. They are a good source of vitamin A, potassium and amino acids. It is an amazing fruit (rather than vegetable, as it contains seeds, however is nearly always cooked as a vegetable), and will absorp all sorts of flavours, it is very popular in ratatouille or curries.
