Description

This is cross between a Blackberry and a Raspberry first bred by the Scottish Crop Research Institute and named after the River Tay.

Tayberries produce consistently higher yields than Loganberries and the fruit is large - sometimes up to 2" (5 cm) in length; the fruit is at its best when it has matured to a purple red colour. They fruits are great not only eaten straight from the plant but cooked, frozen and for making jam.

We would recommend allowing approximately 6 feet (1.8 meter) width for these to grow. They are best having something to 'train' them on such as wires or trellis as they grow in habit like a blackberry but will grow unsupported.

Being later to flower, there is less chance of reduced fruit set / fruit damage in cold years - particularly useful for Northern gardeners.

• Hardy to -26C (-15F).
• Harvest from late July to late August.
