Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
- Covers approx 269 square feet (25 square metres).
- Should be cut annually.
- Sowing can be undertaken any time of year except when snow lays on the ground or the soil is parched bone dry.
- Half fill a plastic bucket with fine sand, earth or moist peat.
- Tip out the complete packet of seeds and stir into the bucket then fill the bucket with more medium ie soil, sand or peat. The idea is to distribute the seeds into this greater volume so that you can thereafter broadcast by hand over the area to be sown. Ideally this should be undertaken just before rain is expected for the seed to have contact with the soil.
- There is no need to cover since these are naturally occurring seeds that are usually simply broadcast on the wind.
- Times for germination is variable.
- If growing in seed trays either of these subjects do not use bottom heat ie a propagator, they will best germinate given cold conditions ie 40 - 50F (4 - 10C).
